From friendliness develops friendships. This is the buzz of being part of hospitality at the Three Horseshoes.
Our little speck of a company in the middle of the very rural Lincolnshire Wolds is about sharing what we enjoy about living here, to create an enjoyable experience for our guests. As an escape to the country, our success is enabling the simple pleasures of life, good company, time to talk, new experiences, open spaces whilst disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The Lincolnshire Wolds is one of England's Areas of Outstanding Natural beauties, a landscape characterised by chalk uplands and lowlands and the changing colours of the agricultural seasons. It is a working landscape that is developing a visitor economy. Companies like us are creating a living focussing on selling the countryside, great for walking, cycling and connecting with nature. We also cater for motor sports enthusiasts attracted to Cadwell Park Racing Circuit. With the growth of visitors, we have revived a once derelict village pub to create an all welcoming inn and campsite in the midst of beautiful rural landscape.
Critical to our team is our core staff who live on site, which includes ourselves, the owners. The core give leadership, continuity and diversity working with us on a salary and profit share basis.
Ian, Owner
I am the background director of the business, often working in the kitchen and on developing what we need. I have been the chief cook for the past five years. I would describe myself as a natural at logistics, mathematically minded and pragmatic. I have a good instinct for what works and what doesn't.
Denise, Owner
Denise, my wife, is the face of our business, great with setting the ethos, which is relaxed, open, welcome, simple. She is the one who tells everyone when they are out of line, both in the pub and on the campsite. She heads up our campsite, spending time answering the phone, dealing with bookings and talking to people. I love her very much.
Trey
A social front of house manager that operates like a boomerang. She comes, she goes but she can't keep away. There is a love for Trey because she is witty, bright, individual, charismatics, welcoming with a memory for faces and orders that turns out to be very handy.
Tony
Seasonal, Tony lives on site during the summer, looking after the grounds and campsite. When the grass grows, Tony mows. Tony keeps the place tidy and is generally around as our summer site warden to look after our campsite guests.
The Un-filled Position of the Pub's Cook
Probably the hardest position to fill as it appears no-one likes to cook and we don't get on with the wasteland of chef's who hate their career choice and then proceed to take out their discontent on the rest of us.
We are patiently looking for a content cook. I say cook because being a chef is so much more than what we really need and although we need it a bit, it turns out I am quite good at being a chef when needed. What we do have is a full week and a far too busy owner to cover all of it. There is definently a role for the person who can prove themselves capable of earning my trust and for that, you have to be honest, work hard, stay content and can cook competently - if you can do that, you are indeed a great pro that will play the part of the hidden gem striving away in the background that I sorely need.
If you are a happy go lucky hospitality worker, happy to do a bit of everything including customer service, waiting on customers, washing up, housekeeping and cleaning up we recruit for a team of summer staff to supplement our core team and part time employees over the busiest months of the summer.
Suits university undergraduates with the summer to spare or people on work away experiences. Ideally you have some experience so that you can quickly hit the ground running.
We have a combination of young employees and some older PT staff that supplement our core team.
The role of our youngsters is to develop their skills within the fast paced, varied world of hospitality. We hope to play a positive role is their development so that one day they can take forward a career in hospitality or develop useful skills whilst supplementing their income as they find their path. Either way, I believe we have a great track record of giving opportunity to young people at the Three Horseshoes.
We love to take on local youngsters finishing GCSEs or in 6th form or college. You will need to live very close to us or will need the parental commitment to help with driving, which can be a pain. On the plus side, its superb experience and a brilliant place to learn about work, people, customer service and many other things. Hospitality work can also support you through university.
We have kitchen roles which really suits some youngsters. The kitchen is an area that is fast paced and has a element of graft, sweat, toil and tears but develops some creative skills and multitasking abilities in a practical context. Youngsters good at subjects like technology and logical subjects like mathematics maybe excellent additions to our kitchen that is all about quick thinking and processing, good presentation but is a no fuss kind of place that develops confidence communicating with waiting staff and chefs.
Waiting of customers is forward facing, dealing with customers. It suits people who are kind, caring and want to please. It is very much about communicating and suits the confident youngsters who communicate well. You will gain much from working in a team and being respected as an employee, serving customers, earning tips. You should develop to understand your role as a facilitator, sales person and ultimately a manager of people. Suits the natural communicators of life.
